I fall to the ground when my fingers miss a monkey bar, and I am blinded by the sharp woodchips which line the cement base of the shiny blue-and-yellow metal playground in order to save us from getting hurt. But of course they don’t save us. Instead they poke our eyes out. I fall through the ground and into a room made only of white, only two chairs and white, with no floor and no ceiling and nothing solid on which I can rest. My bed from home appears in the middle of the white, all pink and soft like the blister after a burn, and it stops my fall in a w...
I'm really cutting it close to the end of this week, but I made it! My weekly love letter is being posted before the end of this week!
So, I bought this thing on Amazon- and you can buy it too! Just click here!
This thing I bought on Amazon (this thing that you can buy too!) is a Bluetooth shower speaker. The suction cup doesn't work (they never do) but it is completely water proof and blasts the sound over the loud shower sounds.
I bought this thing so I could listen to my podcasts while in the shower. I don't always use it when I shower, but wh...
I've been fortunate enough to collaborate on a play titled "Thinking of Monkeys" with three other women who work with me at Disney. We have been working on the 30-min project since January, and we were recently accepted to perform at the Chance Theater in Anaheim as part of their annual fundraising festival, called Chance-A-Thon. Please consider purchasing tickets or donating! All funds go directly to the theater. We are performing in a 99-seat theater, and we are hoping it won't be too embarrassingly empty! Donate or buy tickets here:
I've only been blogging for a few weeks now, but every second of the experience has been incredibly rewarding- maybe my next love letter will be to blogging itself! So far, this blog has provided me with an outlet through which to explore my writing and my thoughts/feelings, has sucked up all my free time (in the best way possible), and has rekindled a sense of purpose in my life. But most importantly, this blog has allowed me to reconnect with old friends in a meaningful way, and it has allowed me to connect with completely new friends all together....
My boyfriend showed me this picture along with an article about the Banksy-created (read more about Bansky here) satirical art exhibit/theme park when Dismaland opened back in 2015. (For those of you who aren't familiar with "Dismaland," check out the Wikipedia page).
"Have you seen this?" He asked me.
"Yeah, isn't it cool?" I responded, "I wanna go!"
"Oh. I thought you'd hate it," Jonathan said.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because," he replied, "you love Disneyland so much."
The term "self-care" gets thrown around a lot, and like many similar platitudes sprinkled over the internet (usually printed in black or white text over a picture of a sunset or an ocean) it can quickly start to seem empty- a pretty phrase coined by people who've never suffered from anything more than the occasional bout of melancholy to suggest that a night out with friends or an experiment with bullet journaling will be enough to cure mental illness. But when examined independently of it's catchy text and stock-photo backgrounds, "self-care," like grati...
I wanted to write a post about the problematic concept of and pressure to be "the bigger person," but writer Kaitlin Tremblay already wrote it for me for Harlot Magazine's website, Harlot Media. The article is called "When Being the Bigger Person Affords You Very Little" (click that title for the original article), and it says everything I want to say on the subject, and more.
Here's the full text:
I try really hard to be the bigger person in situations that feel crappy.
I try because I know there are always a hundred and one variables affecting people tha...
A makeup revolution has hit the chorus women's dressing room of Frozen: Live at the Hyperion!
We have to preserve our show makeup for the duration of long eight hour shifts which include a lot of sweating and a lot of troll masks. We have to wear a lot of foundation every day, use a lot of lipstick, and glue fake eyelashes to our eyeballs, a feeling I don't think I will ever get used to. The former facts mean we go through a ton of makeup way faster than normal, and the latter means we put our eyelashes through hell, often ripping out the real ones when we...
"To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here, age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created america, with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world" -Walt Disney's Opening Day Dedication Speech, July 17, 1955.
This is Disneyland:
These are pictures of me at Disneyland:
